The 25 pin female port (DB-25) on Sartorius Balances and Scales does not use "Standard" RS-232 pin designations.  Your Sartorius balance can easily be connected to any standard RS-232 compatible port with a properly configured cable. 

The Sartorius part # 72602 RS-232 Cable (5 feet in length) that we offer for $55 can connect to a DB-9 pin interface.  The 25 pin side of the cable plugs into the balance's RS-232 port and the 9 pin connector plugs into your computer's serial port.

Sartorius's RS-232 cable is unique pin out and not a standard cable and we can't stress this enough.  We constantly receive calls saying "we can't get any data from the RS-232 on the balance" and 99% of the time the reason is they have the wrong cable.  Take our advice and just purchase the cable when you order the balance and it will save everyone lots of time.  The cable is expensive, but it is well built using shield cable and metal clam shells on the connectors to lessen the chances of any radio frequency interface.

For those people wishing to use a USB port see our Converter Kit RS-232 to USB for Sartorius Balances.  The 72602 cable 9 pin end would then connect to a specially designed USB serial DB9 adapter.  This cable is an additional 13 inches.  So basically we daisy chained two cables to change RS-232 to USB.  The USB is a USB-A type.

Some of our clients that own A&D and Sartorius Balances have successfully used A&D's shareware data communication software called WinCT using the RsKey program to import data from the balance into Excel or MS Word.  To accomplish this go to www.balances.com/and/rskey.html and in the first paragraph is a link to "download WinCT".

Load WinCT on your PC.

use just the RSKey software.

Set the software to

Com Port 1 "typically 1 for RS-232, 3 or 4 for USB" but check your computer manual
Baud 1200
Parity odd

Stop 1
Terminator CR/LF

and bingo data goes from your balance to your computer into MS Word, Excel or Access.  Here are some examples.
